Based on these observations, Simplon Tunis launched its first course. This training course aimed at training 20 job seekers in the Web and Mobile Development profession, thus contributing to the development of qualified human capital and the inclusion of unemployed individuals. The first cohort was launched in 2019 with the financial support of the Société Générale Foundation and the Region of Île de France, as well as in partnership with 15, a building in downtown Tunis that houses entrepreneurial initiatives and provides a starting point for the startup ecosystem in Tunisia.
According to a study conducted by Simplon with the support of the French Agency for Development (AFD) on the needs of the digital labour market in Tunisia, the ICT sector in Tunisia employs more than 80,000 people and has more than 1,500 private companies. However, the study shows a significant mismatch between the skills of job seekers and those sought by companies. The latter report difficulties in finding candidates who meet the professional requirements for the jobs offered, which hinders recruitment and the development of the sector. According to the same study, since 2016, one of the professions most in demand by companies in the digital sector is that of Web and Mobile Development.
